A-Z  - Grief From a Child's Perspective

You’re probably thinking that a little girl like me shouldn’t have to deal with grief. Well, my reality is way different from that of many other children I know. I’ve lost my father, Ma’am (my mother) is in lockup ‘cause of what she did, and I’ve learned that my brothers and sisters are going to a home.

Although I was unhappy, my life before wasn't so bad, except for when Ma'am was screaming and hitting me, but that’s all gone. I’m going to have to deal with my own sadness, plus that of my siblings.  I know you’re thinking this is too much grief for an eleven-year-old to deal with, but I’m used to being responsible, ‘cause I’m the oldest. Tomorrow, I want to talk to you about hope.

If you want to know what happens to me after this, read part of my story here or get my entire life story here.

Grief is not something that is solely belonging to adults. We all have to deal with it and knowing your family was going to be separated would be a big grief to deal with.

I get so upset when my 17 year old granddaughter and 16 year old niece share memories of my brother who was murdered when they were 3 and 4.
They also say they wanted to help us all to not be sad anymore.
Never underestimate kids they are so perceptive.

Doreen,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Children surprise me all the time. They understand so much more than we think.
